Captured by Seljuq Turks in late 11th cen.; Sultan Selim I brought the town under Ottoman rule in 1516; noted for the Ulu Cami dating from Seljuq times, a ruined Roman citadel & the 14th-cen. religious school of Sultan Isa Medresesi.
