Facts in brief:

St. Helena - is a chief island in the British dependent state of Saint Helena; was charted on May 21, 1502 by the Portuguese navigator João da Nova Castella; came under British control through East India Company in 17th cen.; Napoleon I was exiled here 1815-1821.

Jamestown was founded in 1659, when the English East India Company built at Chapel Valley a fort and established a garrison at the site on James Bay, naming it after the Duke of York (later James II)
