Facts in brief:

Spanish commercial city in North Africa; located on E side of Cap des Trois Fourches; colonized by Phoenicians, Greeks & Romans; Berber town fell to Spain in 1497; has been under siege many times; hinterland was secured in 1909; site of Riffian revolt in 1921; site of army chiefs' revolt leading to Spanish Civil War in 1936.
