Don Aquilante Rocchetta
Cavaliero del Santissimo Sepolcro

Peregrinatione di Terra Santa e d'altre provincie:
nellaquale si descrive distintamente quella
di Christo secondo gli Evangelisti.

The "Peregrinatione di Terra Santa" by Aquilante Rocchetta (editor Giuseppe Roma) is a story of a journey, which was planned as a guide to pilgrims that decided to visit the holy places. The book offers the Christian Pilgrims a range of advises: which boats to take, what baggage to bring, what kind of financial aspects they may confront and what routs they should take.

The description of the journey, that started at 26/10/ 1598 in Messina and ended in Palermo at 25/09/1599,shows the objectivity and the curiosity typical for the humanistic culture, that differs in this from the late medieval itineraries. The story describes cities, monuments, costumes, places to stay, views, political situations with attention to the smallest news: the fact that reviles a great intellectual humanistic curiosity.
