Facts in brief:

Island (pl.75): Located in the Ionian Sea off the NW coast of Peloponnesus; is plagued by frequent earthquakes; Thucydides recorded that it was colonized by Achaeans from the Peloponnesus; has often been military base, for Athens, Rome, Norman kings of Sicily, & others

City (pl.76): Located on E coast of the island; tradition claims it was founded by Zacynthus, son of the Arcadian chief Dardanus
