Facts in brief:

Located on Freiberger Mulde river at foot of Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains); was founded by free miners in 12th cen. & fast became an influential silver-mining center; home of the mining code "Freiberger Stadtrecht" (1296); noted for medieval buildings.
