Facts in brief:

Located on Narva river near its outfall into the Gulf of Finland; flourished as commercial center in Middle Ages; occupied by Russia in 16th cen., then by Sweden; noted as site of Swedes defeat of Peter I the Great in 1700 & his victory in 1704.
