  Facts in brief:

  Located on estuary of Krka River & Adriatic Sea; town grew up around St. Mihovil Castle; Venice & Hungary struggled to possess it until 1412; from 1797 to 1815 was part of Napoleon's Illyrian Provinces; ruled by Austro-Hungarian Empire; was taken by Italy after WW I, & then went to Yugoslavia.
